Mixed Perspectives MODI INDUSTRIES experienced size- able shrinkage of margins during 1973- 74 owing to the continued drastic power cut, lower production, hike in raw material prices, and sudden slump in prices of steel ingots towards the year-end. The company's electric are furnaces could produce only 24,225 tonnes of steel against their installed capacity of 90,000 tonnes. Consequently, the rolling mills and the wire-drawing plants were also affected The company is considering diversion of a part of its production to manufacturing special and steel ingots and castings. It is also exploring other, more remunerative, areas of activity. The company is expanding its steel unit 'B', and has nearly completed doing so. The second gas plant was commissioned in July 1974, A part of the continuous casting plant has arrived, and is expected to be erected during 1975.
