THE Union Minister for Food and Agriculture, Jagjivan Ram, has assured the people in a countrywide broadcast that there is no reason for concern on the food front. There could be at least two reasons for this optimism. One is that production in the rabi season has been officially estimated at 44 mn tonnes against 37 inn tonnes in the 1974 rabi season. Second, armed with the emer-gency powers from June 6, the government is well placed indeed to procure a larger proportion of the output for public distribution.
