Calcutta Diary HOME is the sailor, home from the sea. He was an ordinary man, belonging not even to a species, but a genus. He had his early schooling in Shanti- niketan; but that was a mere episode, long-forgotten, even by him. An ordinary man who, a while ago, had crossed his sixtieth year, with archetypal Bengali Hindu middle-class affinities and alignments, hopes and aspirations, scuttled beyond redemption by the rampaging inflation. A homeopath by profession. He died last week.
