LABOUR Workers' Conferences without Workers IT is remarkable that few workers participate actively in the proceedings of or speak at the various workers' and trade union conferences organised from time to time. Thus not one industrial worker spoke from the rostrum of the Maharashtra Workers' Anti-Wage Freeze Nirdhar (Determination) Conference at Poona on October 13. Over 3,000 workers and trade unionists, half of them from Bombay, heard some 20- odd 'leaders' for five hours and voted for a state-wide token general strike and gherao of all government offices on October 30.
