Economic Roots of Oppression

ON July 4 caste Hindus burnt down over a 100 huts belonging to the scheduled castes of Ramannapalle village in Cuddappah district of. Andhra Pradesh. A 500-strong Hindu mob, armed with lathis, axes, spears and allegedly even a gun or two, set upon the scheduled castes, injuring 30 of them. Some of the scheduled castes received head injuries; an old woman had her leg broken; even a pregnant woman was not spared. At least eight people had to be hospitalised.
