 And just this week the West Bengal Chief Minister, Siddhartha Shankar Ray, has announced that a new armed police battalion is to be raised for service in the coal mines of the state. The battalion would be under the control of the West Bengal government with an Inspector-General of Police in command. According to Siddhartha Ray, the Central government has undertaken to meet the cost of raising and maintaining the battalion. It is clear that the Centre, which is seldom so generous when faced with requests for a little more money for primary education or for rural health services has got It priorities right!
