MALINAGAR is a village in Malshiras taluka in Sholapur district. It is fertile sugarcane area, serviced by the Nira river irrigation system. When the British government first built the Nira irrigation system, the local farmers, long used to raising a single rain-fed crop, would not use the waters of the canals. The authorities then appointed the Kamat Committee to find out why the agriculturists were not using the water. The Committee recommended the import of farmers from outside who were more used to irrigated fanning. Thus a Jew .families from Poona district and adjoining areas were inducted into Mai in agar.
