WEST BENGAL No Serious Challenge WHILE the credibility gap between the promise and performance of the Congress regime in West Bengal as well as in the country as a whole has been steadily widening, the prospect of a Left alternative in the foreseeable future is getting dimmer and dimmer. L'affaire RSP in West Bengal has brought to the surface the appalling poverty of Left politics in the state, although despite the near-total obliteration of the Left opposition in the state legislature West Bengal along with Kerala and Tripura had managed to save a large mass base from joining the countrywide 'Indira wave' between 1969 and 1972.
