the civil service in Bangladesh has been taken over by the most bigoted, Muslim League-minded elements, who would not miss out; opportunity to run down Indra. Never mind if the minorities are deprived of their lives, in addition to their residual pittance of property. Those who have the cheek to demand the overhaul of the socio-economic structure are being gunned down most efficiently by Sheikh Mujibur Rehman. What more does one want of him? In terms of class character, he and his party have succeeded in fashioning a regime which compares very favourably with our own. Water has found its own level. That should be enough of a compensation, during this anniversary week, for the other irritations. If you think it is the niceties of international diplomatic relations which are preventing New Delhi from mildly remonstrating with the Sheikh, please spare another thought : birds of the same feather flock together.
