TAMIL NADU-Leviathan Unbound
TAMIL NADU EXACTLY a year ago Tamil Nadu was shaken by a wave of student agitations protesting against police assault on a professor at Palayamkottai, against the killing of a student in a related incident, and against the police orgy at Clive's Hostel in Tiruchi that had left scores of students badly bruised and blading. The agitations were suppressed by severe police reprisals and by closure of schools and colleges for long periods. At the same time, two District judges were appointed as Commissions of Inquiry. Appointed in December 1972, both commissions submitted their reports to the Government in August, which placed them before the Assembly in late November.
