With this end in view the Reserve Bank has set the limit for credit expansion in the seven months October 1973 to April 1974 for purposes other than food procurement at Rs 600 to Rs 650 erores. Since about Rs 209 crores of non-food credit expansion has already taken place in October 1973, credit expansion in the rest of the busy season is to be limited to Rs 400 to Rs Rs 450 crores. In other words, non-food credit expansion in the 1973-74 busy season is to be roughly one-half of what it was in the 1972-73 busy season (Rs 873 crores). It is also to be very much less than indicated in the commercial banks' own credit budgets for the busy season, which added up to a total of Rs 900 to 1000 crores, including credit for food procurement.
