When the party was formed, the CPI-M tad only annoyed its chief, M G Rama- chandran, and his gurus, the CPI brass, with its demand for a clear statement of the party's policies. At that time, corruption was indeed the only charge that MGR had levelled against the ministers; he had no objection to the DMK continuing in power provided there was a change in the ministry. When a document claiming to be the original version of Annadurai's policy did come out a year later, a DMK minister quipped that at last the CPI had found time to draft it.
