WITH a forest area of 25-30 mn hec-tares, India has among the biggest forest resources in the world. The sheer size of its forests should normally en-sure it a leading position among pro-ducers of wood in the world. Unfortu-nately, India's actual output, and espe-cially its exports, are far from commen-surate with its productive capacity and growth potential.
