NEW DELHI Slaughter of Fertiliser Corporation A HIGH-POWERED purchase mission of the government is right now visiting a number of countries, in desperate search of suppliers willing to enter into long-term contracts to meet our fertiliser requirements. Equally frantic are the efforts to locate sources which will build the 'most modern' fertiliser plants for us. The Planning Commission is eager to allocate resources for this high priority. 'core' sector industry. But even as these desperate 'attempts go on, the national technological and management capability built up in the fertiliser field is sought to be systematically destroyed. A sustained campaign of blander, misrepresentation and intimidation has been going on against the Fertiliser Corporation of India for the last several months. As a final blow, the Managing Director of the Corporation, K R Chakravartty, has been 'asked by the Ministry of Petroleum and Chemicals to relinquish charge and go on leave.
