Though the predictions are for 1981, even given better organisational support it would be unrealistic to expect a successful launch before 1985. However, it will require careful cost analysis before it can be established that even with hundreds of speech, telex and TV channels, such a system is superior to other broadband links (such as coaxial cables and microwave), when the tremendous initial investment is taken into account.
