THE study of power in society is inextricably linked to the institutions and processes of politics. Pre-eminent among these national institutions is the Lok Sabha. This article examines the social background of those who have successfully operated in the national political arena and now occupy positions of undisputed power and eminence as members of the Lok Sabha.
