Owing to shortage of tinplate in the country, for the first time in many years the government has permitted import of a certain quality of general purpose plate. Bhaskar, Mitter, chairman, points out, however, that the industry is still anxious as Rour- kela's production during the last few months has fallen to "even lower levels than anticipated". While power shortages still threaten the output of Rourkela and other tinplate plants, supplies of board and plastics materials are also likely to remain difficult.
