How to Break a Strike TRADE Unions in Tamil Nadu were not merely alive, but even kicking a little hit in the first half of the year. This, despite the 75 per cent power cut, massive lay-offs, denial of even the half-wages, and retrenchment. Several of the big factories in Madras city, Such as Dunlop, Wimco, Madras Rubber Factory and National Carbon, went on prolonged strikes ranging from three to nine months, often on issues unrelated to monetary benefits. Many of these strikes had seen some of the militants left in the streets at the end.
