Dividend Maintained on Profit Decline and Diversification Hansavivek ELPRO INTERNATIONAL has commenced regular production of cobalt-60 teletherapy equipment, which it is the first to have developed indigenously. With orders for more units in hand, including three for export, this will constitute an important addition to the company's medical systems line. Other medical systems products, introduced last year, were a fluoroscopic and radiographic unit, a 20 MA x-ray generator, and an x-ray disgnotic table. Meanwhile, the new 198 KB lightning arrester has met with good response. But the company's results last year were affected by the "depressed economic environment following the Indo-Pakistan war" and the poor monsoon. Alnico magnets for household meters and x-ray products were the hardest hit. Sales to government, which normally account for about half of annual turnover in these lines, was greatly reduced. Lightning arresters are entirely taken up by the State Electricity Boards. Lack of funds with SEBs, drought conditions, and a slowdown on rural electrification, very much reduced sales. Power shortage throughout the country has in fact had a very unfavourable impact on electrical products. Moreover, the growth of the radio market, to which the speaker magnet sates are tied, also slowed down from previous years.
