 EXPORTS of spices rose from Rs 32 lakhs in 1960-61 to Rs 25 crores in 1968- 69, and further sharply to Rs 34.50 cro- ies in 1969-70, In 1971-72, exports reached an all-time high of Rs 37 crores, giving India a pre-eminent position in the Rs 125-crore world trade in spices. However, of late there have been signs of an impending setback. During April-August 1972, only 17,600 tonnes of spices valued at Rs 10.34 crores were exported, against 28,600 tonnes valued at Rs 13.67 crores in the same period
