BOMBAY-Congress Debacle

Bombay Municipal Corporation last week could not have been more different from that of the last elections in 1968. The Congress in 1968 was a party badly shaken by its country-wide reverses in the previous year's general elections. In Bombay the party was then led by S K Patil, the archetype Tammany Hall politician. Even his most ardent admirers could not have discerned an excess of mass enthusiasm either for him or the party of which he had been the unquestioned boss for long, boring years.
