Sugar Lift Profitable Hansavivek WALCHANDNAGAR INDUSTRIES has applied for enhancement of licens- ed capacity for manufacture of water- tube baiters, high-speed centrifugals, milling plants, sugar plants, gears, gearboxes and pinions, chemical and nuclear machinery, sugar mill machinery, rectified and denatured spirit, and cement-making machinery. Government has so far allowed the company to step up capacity of water-tube boilers, highspeed centrifugals, gears, gearboxes and pinionsProgress of work on the Kinya- la sugar project in Uganda has been hampered on account of nationalisation of the local establishment of the company's associates in this venture. Negotiations with the Ugandan authorities are going on for expediting the alternate arrangements for carrying out the erection work, and work is expected to be resumed soon. The company has secured another export order from Malaysia, worth Rs 450 lakhs, for the supply of a complete sugar plant with a daily crushing capacity of 2,500 tonnes. The project is to be completed by September 1974. During 1971-72, Walchandnagar crushed 1,71,060 tonnes of sugarcane and produced 1,76,443 quintals of sugar with an average recovery of 10.23 per cent; In the previous year, the company crushed 2,00,004 tonnes of cane and produced 2,18,765 quintals of sugar with a recovery of 10.9 per cent.
