Directors' Report for the Year 1971 THE year 1971 was one of the most eventful in recent times in the country's history. Early in the year, the Prime Minister was returned to head the Government with a massive mandate from the electorate. Hardly had the new Government settled down to the changed environments, when the country was faced with a vast influx of population from across the eastern borders. And, there was the enormous problem of providing shelter, food and clothing to almost ten million refugees, who had crossed over. Subsequent events culminated in an open conflict with Pakistan. Then came our great victory, followed by the unilateral declaration of cease-fire and the emergence of a new nation
