Studies on the likely impact of GSP, India's role in the emerging economic situation in Bangladesh, impact of cur- rency parity realignments on India's trade, implications of Sino-US trade relations, etc, could be better fitted into the activities of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade or the Economic Adviser's Division in the Ministry of Foreign Trade. The research analysis division appears to be not only an avoidable financial burden on the TDA, it might even result in deflecting attention to general research problems of dubious value to the TDA. The resources employed in research and analysis could be usefully diverted to its merchandising division.
