ing class is undertaken by the state school system, the other strata of Britain's finely divided society having set up for itself a 'public' school system. The state schools have become manufactories for disciplined and literate workers and the situation has bred its antithesis. Organisations which represent the school students, such as the School's Action Union which called the London demonstrations, are moving fast towards demanding that the state pay its future workers while they are still at school, as it has become increasingly evident to the students themselves that far from receiving an education they are serving an apprenticeship of processing for the general and lower orders of the economy.
