AITUC-In Mourning
Our Maharashtra Correspondent writes:
THE CPI-Ied AITUCs Maharashtra State Trade Union Committee held its Sixth Conference in Bombay recently after a gap of eleven years (the last conference was held in 1961). The conference was attended by over 400 delegates from all over the state and leading luminaries of the Communist party, including party chairman S A Dange who is also the General Secretary of AITUC and S S Mirajkar, AITUC President, graced the occasion by their presence. Of course, what was discussed at the conference is not known. A report in the CPI journal, New Age, referred to the conference, the attendance and the election of a new council of MSTUC along with a new president and a new general secretary. The report also made a mention of the need to take steps to strengthen the trade union movement in Bombay city and the rest of Maharashtra, but gave no details.
