HINDUSTAN LEVER's sales increased from Rs 119 crores in 1970 to Rs 134 crores in 1971. Distributable profits, which had suffered a setback in 1970 owing to substantial increases in raw material costs, recovered from Rs 2.39 crores to Rs 2.75 crores after tax, capital expenditure on scientific research and net transfer to development rebate re-serve. According to the company, results for the current year will depend signifi-cantly upon the outcome of discussions with government in regard to prices of products which are subject to price con-trol. The company's exports rose by Rs 74 lakhs to Rs 5.52 crores. Included in these are increased exports of synthe-tic detergents to the USSR
