Employment in the Organised Sector

EMPLOYMENT in the organised sec-tor increased during 1971-72, though at a slightly slower rate, it being 2.2 per cent in 1970-71 as against 2.5 per cent in the previous year. In absolute terms, employment increased from 17.1 million at the end of March 1970 to 17.5 mil-lion at the end of March 1971, accord-ing to the Annual Report regarding em-ployment and training of the Depart-ment of Labour and Employment The employment growth (rate of 3.2 per cent) in the Public Sector attained dur-ing 1970-71 was higher than in the pre-ceding year (2.5 per cent). In absolute terms employment increased from 10.37 million in March 1970 to 10.71 in March, 1971.
