Siddaveerappa, a very old hand at the political game, is Urs' main rival in the party. In the bid to form a ministry he was supported by quite a few Vok- kaligas also, like M V Krishnappa, now an MP. Urs opposed the move. His logic was that a ministry then formed would largely consist of defectors and the party could never have a fresh team. Secondly, Urs must have seen in Siddaveerappa's haste an attempt at becoming Chief Minister.
