Fattening the Milch Cow?
FN an evident effort to press rayon weavers into accepting an upward revision of yam prices. Minister for Foreign Track, L, N Mishra, stated in Parliament that costs of rayon yarn spinners had gone up considerably since the Tariff Commission report, so that spinners and weavers should now arrive at a voluntary agreement on price and distribution fair to both. The current agreement expires on January 1. While weavers and spinners have been meeting in Delhi to hammer out a settlement, weavers have made it known that they are averse to such manage- ment of prices and would rather base them on the Tariff Commission's recommendations. That the request would be in vain should have been obvious to the weavers; when no agreement could be reached, Government simply extended the deadline for concluding the pact to January 10Clearly, it wishes to avoid statutory control
