United Front in the four by-elections to the State Assembly last month has come as a morale booster for the three- party coalition government. But in a slightly longer-term perspective, the election results may not be without some adverse consequences for the stability of the government, Three of the four by-elections had been caused because the candidates elected from these constituencies in the last election had also won elsewhere and so had to vacate these seats.
