DAR-ES-SALAAM-Restructuring the Community Model

MEETING recently in Kampala, the: Economic Planning and Consultative Council of the East African Community took a decision that has great significance for the future of the Community. It decided to commission a study of selected multi-national or large-scale industries considered to be of strategic, East African character. The selected industries are iron and steel, automotive and chemical. The study is to establish and recommend measures to be taken by the member states in order to ensure that these industries derive the maximum benefit from multi-national co-operation. The significance of the decision lies in that it seeks to put into practice the rationale of the economic grouping of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
