First she played Chimanbhai against Ghia and later Adani, Ghia and the others against Chimanbhai. The GPCC has thus become riddled with factions with the result that it is becoming increasingly dependent on the party's Central leadership which, in today's circumstances, means the Prime Minister herself. Evidently, by this divide and rule policy she hopes to nip in the bud the regional centres of power which, if allowed to grow, might assail her authority just as they did her father's.
