The announcement of the revised procedure should remove doubts expressed in certain quarters about Government's intentions to takeover the import trade from this season. The claim made by the leaders of the cotton trade that the import of Sudan cotton had been left in private hands because of their agitation has also been exposed. But tin's hardly matters. What is really important is whether the Corporation has built up the necessary administrative set-up to handle import business efficiently. That the first meeting of the CCI board should have been concerned entirely with routine preliminary business of registration, official seal and coat of arms, delegation of powers to the managing director, opening of bank account, etc, suggests that the machinery for handling imports has still to be set up. Since imports involve valuable foreign exchange, undue haste in taking over import business should be avoid- ed.
