versity of Bombay,, started a summer school five years ago as an experiment. The idea is to bring together students from various colleges, not just to listen to lectures but to think and formulate their opinions on matters that do not normally come within their curricula. There are two sessions a day consisting of a talk for an hour or so and a discussion in groups or with the lecturer that often runs to two hours and more. The topics range from politics, economics and current problems to the sciences, literature and the fine arts; traditional concepts and new developments in these fields are probed. Sometimes the topics are grouped under a loose connecting theme such as Revolution and Reform or Education in the 1970s. There is no administrative criteria for admission and the fees are nominal
