Role of Sociology in Medical Education and Research AM Shah Aneett Ahluwalia There appears to be general agreement that some training in the social sciences can help the medical practitioner in his profession. There are, however, certain specific questions about the introduction of social sciences in medical education: in which phase of his medical training should the medical student be taught the social sciences; who should provide this training; which aspects of social sciences should form part of the training; what should be the proportion of social sciences training in the total train- ing received by the trainee; and how should this instruction be imparted.
