ASSAM-Evaded Again
LUCKNOW The Same Triangle THE installation last month of the BKD Ministry led by Charan Singh and supported by Congress (R) and the demonstration that it enjoys the support of 233 members in a House of 425 in the vote on the motion of thanks to the Governor on March 4 have proved that in politics as well two sides of a triangle are greater than the third. The present political tangle in UP involves the old triangle of undivided Congress consisting of C B Gupta, Kamalapathi Tripati and Charan Singh. Everybody knew, including C B Gupta, that Gupta could not retain his majority in the Assembly even with all the powers of patronage and money he could command and his own undoubted political skills. The average MLA wants to get a return on his investment in the mid-term poll and so the least he expects is that the Assembly should live its full life. This, he knew, could be ensured only if there was a Government in the State which was on the right side of the Union Government.
