January 3, 1970 is one of the bigger public undertakings and deserves a lot more publicity than it gets, Its earnings from exports alone are of the order of Rs 35 crores annually. But like so many public undertakings, NMDC is also very much in the red. A large part of the chairman's statement is accordingly taken up in discussing the Corporation's losses. According to the chairman, "it is now widely recognised and appreciated that these losses are not in any way attributable to any shortcomings or defects in the working of the NMDC".
