AFTER hastening rather slowly for months, preparation for the mid-term election in West Bengal is now poised for a big leap forward. With the polls barely three weeks away, the second round of campaigning by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, coinciding as it did with the visit of Left stalwarts like the Kerala Chief Minister and the CPI chairman, has appreciably raised the political temperature in the State. With Pujas, floods, id and Christmas now safely behind, and the harvesting over, voters in this politically alert State may be depended upon to respond increasingly to the lure of ballot box
