THE 'quick' estimates of national income for 1968-69. just published, must serve as a warning to those basking in the sunshine of a third successive good harvest. After the good performance in 1967-68 (with a 19 per cent rise in agricultural output which raised national income by 8.9 per cent) there was no improvement in agricultural output in 1968-69 (there was, in fact, a marginal decline of 1.4 per cent) The rise in national income in 1968-69 is as a result only 1.8 per cent, with an actual decline (0.6 per cent) in per capita income.
