October 18, 1969 What one would expect to know from the chairman of HMT is what measures have been taken by HMT to improve productivity and quality (which would ultimately determine its export potentialities), to assess the demand pattern of user industry groups (like automobiles and tractors), and to explore the possibilities of increasing the replacement demand (which at present is only 8 per cent) by offering various incentives. One would also expect to know something of the results of the census of machine-tools, undertaken in 1968, which would throw more light on the demand situation.
