September 27, 1969 JAPAN The Go-Go Economy A HUNDRED years after the Meiji Revolution, the Japanese economy shows hardly any evidence of senility. The growth rate is the highest in the world and there is a favourable balance of payments position. Last year, population passed the 100-million mark and the average per capita income crossed $ 1,000. That makes Japan a $ 100 billion economy. The annual growth rate exceeds 10 per cent.
