BRUSSELS The American Connection Revived PRESIDENT Nixon's 8-day visit to Europe has given a new dimension to the love-hate relationship which has existed between US and Western Europe since the War. Post-War Europe, stripped of its colonial possessions and shorn, as a result, of the political power it once exercised, and overtaken by the American giant in the industrial and technological field is inevitably resentful of US. This resentment, on which anti-American sentiment has fed for nearly a generation, has been tempered by a feeling of solidarity with US in the face of a rising tide of colour consciousness and of respect for American achievements in the economic and political fields.
