One way out could be to begin with the organisation of migrant labour in the cities and towns. The building workers and the rickshaw- pullers should, of course, be organised in their own right but a perspicacious leadership should also attempt to pick up from among them a few who could go back to the village for purposes of unionisation. A rather less fertile field for work would be among Harijan students. Unfortunately many of them have a vested interest in the maintenance of their backward status while many others have been corrupted by prospects of middle-class advancement
