Even an increase of Rs 5 per month in the salaries of Central government employees getting less than Rs 200 a month would mean an additional annual expenditure of about Rs 15 croree. If State governments, quasi-government organisations, local bodies and public sector units are also sought to be covered, the additional burden would be a multiple of that figure. From this the cost to the Exchequer of raising the minimum all the way from Rs 135 to Rs 200 per month can well be imagined.
