Commission had recommended an increase of one to five per cent only in respect of varieties superior in length to Vidarbha/MP Virnar. But the government has raised the prices for all varieties. The government's decision seems to have been guided by the consideration that acceptance of the Commission's recommendation would have invited the political displeasure of cotton growers who produce varieties shorter than or equal to Vidarbha/ MP Virnar.
