The argument between the CPI and CPI(M) would seem to be all the more surprising in view of the fact thai the extreme left in the CPI(M) seems to have won a majority in the recent Palakol plenum of the party. It would appear that what the ultras were unable to accomplish in Kerala, possibly due to A K Gopalan's volte face, they were able to achieve in Andhra despite the physical presence of Sundarayya and Basavapunnaiah at the plenum. Notwithstanding this inner turmoil, the CPI (M) leadership in Andhra has made a most happy departure from its previous position of regarding the CPI as its main enemy.
