tion, percentage of minorities, urbanisation, percentage of agricultural labour, and percentage of cultivators, and tried to assess their degree of association with the percentage of votes polled for Congress, Communist, Socialist, Rightist, and Independent groupings. Our analysis covered all the districts of MP. The results, as summarised in the Table here, show that the Congress vote was positively associated with literacy rate and urbanisation, and negatively with the percentage of cultivators in a district.
