magazines, its drama troupes and film actors, its popular writers and poets, it has established a cultural and emotional affinity with the Tamil people. It is not otherwise possible to explain its success in exploiting the failings of the Congress in a comparatively well-run State which has experienced by no means negligible industrial and agricultural growth in recent years and in which the Congress has not been plagued by the kind of virulent factionalism which has been the cause of its downfall in some other States.
