Even as the senseless language riots spread like a rash across the so-called Hindi-speaking areas in the North, engineered largely by tiny groups of SSP and Jan Sanghi agitators, he was busy keeping an eye on the pro-jected UF mass civil disobedience threat and also finding time to cope with the post-earthquake situation in Maharashtra. Chavan will breathe more easily once he gets confirma-tion of his thesis that the Bengalis in Calcutta have lost their appetite for confrontations
